New Executive Council Takes Office
New Executive Council Takes Office. The new executive council (EC), which was announced by the MIA Elections and Compliance Commission, has taken office as of January 1st, 2014. The composition of the MIA EC is as follows:

- Vice President 2 – Br. Salman Qureshi
- Secretary – Sr. Ferdose Sheikheldin
- Treasurer – Br. Eid Mahmudov
- Member – Br. Khaled Al-Taweel
- Member – Sr. Deema Syed
The EC wishes to thank the outgoing members of the EC, Br. Ismael Mukhtar (President), Br. Louay Algoul (Vice President 2), Br. Osaed Khan (Secretary) and Br. Alaa Kassem (Member) for their hard work and dedication over the past two years. May Allah reward them. Ameen.

Time: After Isha
On Friday January 17 2014 Imam Hamid Slimi will be visiting the community from Toronto. He will deliver Friday khutba and give a lecture after Isha entitled “Muhammad, The Foundation of Love” at the Grand Mosque (2445 Waverly). He will also be conducting a specialized workshop for community workers and imams on the topic of marriage in Islamic and Canadian Law.
The Al Fajr Sunday Quran program for children will resume on Sunday January 12, 2014. Classes start at 11am and end before Duhr prayer at 1pm.
MIA Al Fajr Certified Quran Hifz Program
MIA Al Fajr Certified Quran Hifz Program has more openings for students wishing to memorize the Quran with an instructor. The openings are available in the evenings in the mosque at 247 Hazelwood. The fee is $50/month and students are required to attend classes twice per week on days agreed to with the instructor. Please click here for the registration forms (LINK). Please submit the form to MIA office. An initial assessment is required prior to confirming registration.
Installation of Security Cameras
Through a generous grant from the Winnipeg Foundation, security cameras have been installed in both mosques at all entrances. The entrances are monitored around the clock.
The MIA maintenance committee, under the supervision of outgoing EC member br. Alaa Kassem, has finished reinforcing all gym walls. We thank all the volunteers for their hard work and dedication.
Community members are strongly encouraged to become formal members of the MIA. An application form is available on the MIA website (LINk) and can be dropped off along with the $30 fee at the MIA office or to the MIA secretary. Per theMIA bylaws, membership applications are processed by the membership committee to ensure compliance with membership requirements. Existing members can renew for 2014 before the end of February by simply paying the $30 fee.
