[Oct 23rd] Special General Body Meeting

Where: Winnipeg Grand Mosque (2445 Waverely)

The MIA EC has received a petition on the date of September 30th 2012 and we were asked to respond by the October 14th. The petition meets the submission requirement to call a special body meeting according to Article X, Section 2(b). Therefore we are making an announcement today (being two weeks time of the petition. Due to priory MIA events scheduled on the weekends (Open House, Eid, Eid Dinner), to accommodate a date as soon as possible we will be hold the special meeting on a weekday. The special meeting will take place Tuesday, October 23rd 2012 at 6:30pm at Waverley Grand Mosque Hall/Gym. After reviewing the petition carefully, there were two items in the petition.

The first item in the petition deals with the imam employment matter. Employment matters in the MIA are within the jurisdiction of the MIA executive council and the matter has been dealt with it, therefore this item will not form part of the agenda.

The second item in the petition “What actions the majority of the full membership of MIA want taken by the MIA EC to ensure that the position of Imam is filled and the spiritual needs of the membership are attended to.”. This item will be discussed in the agenda.

Important note – in a special body meeting – no new items can be called or added to agenda. This is the only item that will be discussed in the meeting.

MIA Scholarship Recipients

MIA is pleased to announce this years recipients of MIA scholarship sponsored by Abdo Tassi. Both Br. Suhail Tragha and Osama Jarkas will receive $1000. The certificate will be presented to them at the MIA Eid Dinner on Nov 10, 2012. MIA would like to thank Br. Abdo Tassi for his generous sponsorship and Scholarship committee members Dr. Donald Trim, Dr. Madid Birouk and Dr. Reda Elgazzar.

MIA Al-Noor Weekend Islamic School
