Sharing the legacy of our Prophet Mohamed (PUH)
The recent attacks on our beloved Messenger are a continuation of centuries long efforts to undermine the message of Islam and to distort the image of the Messenger of Allah (PUH). But, by the grace of Allah SWT, the light of the prophet and his exemplary example continues to shine and inspire millions, despite the efforts of the enemies of Islam. There is a lot to be learned from the example of the prophet and his ever lasting legacy. We certainly need to continually educate ourselves and refresh our memory on the seerah of the prophet (PUH). We also need to reach out to the public at large and share with them the authentic history of our Messenger. In an effort to achieve that, the MIA EC is planning the following activities:
1) Community lecture night: Prophet Mohamed (PUB), a model of humanity & Mercy.
Sheikh Said Rageah, a well known speaker and Imam of Abu Huraira Mosque in Toronto, will be visiting Winnipeg on Friday September 21, 2012. He will be delivering the Jumma Khuttba at the Waverly Mosque. He will also be the key speaker at a community lecture night. The details of the lecture night are as follows:
Date: Friday, September 21, 2012
Time: 7:30 PM – 9:30 PM (between Maghrib and Isha)
Location: Waverly Mosque Gym.
Topic: Prophet Mohamed (PUH), a Model of Humanity and Mercy.
Main speaker: Sheikh Said Rageah
Refreshments will be served. Admission free.
For more information, please contact: osaed.khan@miaonline.org or MIA Events Committee: events@miaonline.org
2) Open house to people of other faith at the Waverly Mosque:
On Sunday October the 14th a full day open house will be organized for the larger public to visit the mosque, to learn about Islam and about prophet Mohamed (PUH). Free literature on Islam and Prophet Mohamed will be made available. Refreshments will also be served.
An invitation will be sent to mosque neighbors, faith groups, politicians and the public at large. A special committee along with the MIA Events Committee is working on this undertaking. If you would like to help by volunteering your time, or financially sponsoring the purchase of copies of the Quran, literature on Islam or refreshments or advertising the event, please contact: osaed.khan@miaonline.org. More details will follow soon.
3) Petition to the Federal government:
A petition has been drafted to be sent to the government through our local MP. The petition voices our concerns over the protection of our religious rights and respect of our Islamic symbols. Further, the petition demands action from the government to combat hate and Islamo-phobic messages. The petition will be available this Friday at the mosques for signatures.
MIA’s fiscal year ends on September the 30th. We kindly ask all donors who made donation pledges in May fundraising dinner and during Ramadan fundraisings to make their payments before September 30th. You may mail your cheques, hand them in person or put them in the donation slot in the mosque. Please indicate in the note that it is a pledge donation. Tax receipt will be sent as soon as the payment clear through the bank. For any inquiry, please contact Dr. Tariq Mian, MIA EC member & director of fundraising and social assistance: Tariq.Mian@miaonline.org
